In a disturbing incident from Uttar Pradesh's Kanpur, a 27-year-old coaching center operator and teacher, Devendra Patel, has been arrested following allegations of repeatedly raping a 15-year-old Class 10 student over the past month. The case, registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, came to light on Thursday when the girl refused to attend her coaching classes.
According to police and media reports, the accused, who also teaches at the victim's school and runs the coaching institute in the Kidwai Nagar area, allegedly assaulted the minor at his coaching center starting in December 2025. He reportedly threatened to kill her parents and younger brother if she resisted or disclosed the abuse and warned of ruining her life.
The matter surfaced when the girl's mother questioned her refusal to go to class, leading the teen to break down and reveal the repeated sexual exploitation. The family confronted Patel at the center, where he allegedly threatened to falsely implicate the girl in a case. The victim's father then filed a complaint at Kidwai Nagar police station. Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) Yogesh Kumar and Station House Officer Dharmendra Kumar confirmed the arrest. The victim has undergone a medical examination, and the investigation is ongoing.
