Jharkhand police arrested three men—Ritesh Singh, Ashok Gupta, and Raj Kumar Mukhiya alias Raj Bachcha—in Jamshedpur’s Olidih area on Tuesday for flaunting illegal firearms in viral social media photos. The arrests followed a swift investigation triggered by public alarm over the images, which depicted the trio posing with country-made pistols, said Deputy Superintendent of Police Bachandeo Kujur.
A special team, led by the Old DDI AOP police, conducted targeted raids, seizing two pistols—one black and silver, the other silver—along with a touchscreen phone used to share the images. “Interrogation led us to recover the weapons shown in the photos,” Kujur stated. The arrests underscore a growing trend of criminals using social media to project power, prompting fears of escalating gun culture.
The Jamshedpur police emphasized that such acts of glorifying crime online will face strict action, reinforcing their commitment to public safety. The trio faces charges under the Arms Act, with further investigations ongoing to trace the weapons’ origins. Posts on X echoed local concerns, with users praising the police’s prompt response while highlighting the need for tougher social media monitoring.
