A tragic late-night accident in Jaipur claimed one life and left 15 others injured when a speeding Audi luxury car, allegedly driven by an intoxicated individual, lost control and rammed into pedestrians and roadside vendors on Friday night. The incident took place near Kharabas Circle in the Patrakar Colony area (also referred to as Journalist Colony), a bustling spot frequented by evening crowds and food stalls. Police reports indicate the vehicle first struck a road divider before veering into food carts and stalls over a 30-meter stretch, damaging several parked vehicles and causing widespread panic among onlookers.
The driver has been identified as Dinesh Ranwan, a resident of Churu district in Rajasthan. Authorities confirmed that four people were in the car, all suspected of being under the influence of alcohol. One occupant was arrested at the scene, while the remaining three fled. The mangled Audi was seized for investigation, with police examining CCTV footage, eyewitness accounts, and other evidence to confirm factors such as speeding and intoxication. The crash's severity left the high-end car severely damaged, underscoring the force of the impact.
Among the victims, 16 individuals were initially hit and rushed to nearby hospitals for treatment. Four were reported in critical condition and referred to Sawai Man Singh (SMS) Hospital. One of the injured, Ramesh Bairwa from Bhilwara, succumbed to his injuries during medical care. The victims included pedestrians and roadside vendors caught off guard in the crowded area, highlighting the dangers of reckless driving in populated urban zones.
