The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) on Wednesday intercepted and seized a Pakistani fishing vessel operating illegally in India’s Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ), apprehending all 11 crew members on board. The operation, carried out as part of routine maritime patrolling, underscores the ICG’s proactive approach to maritime security and India’s commitment to enforcing international laws within its maritime boundaries. Officials highlighted that the interception prevented potential illegal exploitation of India’s marine resources, which are vital for the local economy and ecological balance.
Gujarat Defence PRO Wing Commander Abhishek Kumar Tiwari confirmed that the boat was apprehended during routine surveillance operations in the western coastal region and that the detainees have been handed over to Jakhau Marine Police in Gujarat for further questioning and investigation. Tiwari emphasized that such operations demonstrate the ICG’s ability to detect and act upon incursions swiftly, ensuring that foreign vessels do not infringe upon India’s maritime jurisdiction.
The ICG released a statement noting that the interception reflects “unwavering vigilance” and a firm commitment to safeguarding India’s territorial waters. Authorities underlined that continuous monitoring, rapid response, and strategic enforcement form the foundation of the country’s maritime security framework. They added that operations like these are essential to prevent repeated illegal fishing activities, which could result in economic losses and undermine the enforcement of international maritime law.

Maritime security analysts highlighted the broader implications of the seizure, noting that illegal incursions by foreign fishing vessels can threaten local livelihoods, disrupt marine ecosystems, and strain diplomatic relations. They pointed out that such interdictions not only protect India’s natural resources but also reinforce the credibility and deterrence capability of the Coast Guard, sending a clear message that violations of maritime boundaries will not be tolerated.
The Coast Guard reaffirmed that relentless monitoring, proactive patrolling, and rapid interception remain integral to India’s maritime security strategy. Officials stressed that similar operations will continue across the EEZ to ensure compliance with maritime regulations, safeguard fisheries, and uphold the nation’s sovereignty over its waters, emphasizing that India remains vigilant against any threats in its maritime domain.
