The Chief of the Indian Air Force, Air Chief Marshal Amar Preet Singh, undertook a familiarisation sortie in a U.S. Air Force F-15EX Eagle II fighter jet during his official visit to the United States, marking a notable moment in India–U.S. defence engagement.
The flight took place at Nellis Air Force Base in Nevada, one of the most advanced combat training facilities of the U.S. Air Force. The sortie was part of ongoing high-level defence discussions between the two countries focused on operational cooperation, technology exchange, and interoperability in modern air warfare.
According to official reports, the Indian Air Force chief flew alongside a U.S. Air Force pilot from the 85th Test and Evaluation Squadron. The experience provided him direct exposure to the F-15EX platform, an advanced air superiority fighter equipped with next-generation avionics, digital fly-by-wire controls, and upgraded mission systems.

The F-15EX Eagle II is the latest evolution of Boeing’s long-serving F-15 series and is considered one of the most capable fourth-generation-plus fighter aircraft in the U.S. arsenal. It is designed for high payload capacity, extended range, and versatility in both air-to-air and air-to-ground missions, making it a key asset in modern contested airspace operations.
During the visit, the Indian delegation also held discussions with senior U.S. Air Force officials at Nellis Air Force Base, focusing on strengthening joint exercises and improving coordination between the two air forces. The engagement forms part of broader Indo-U.S. defence cooperation efforts, particularly in the Indo-Pacific region where both countries share strategic interests.
The visuals of the sortie have drawn significant attention as such familiarisation flights are considered rare and symbolic, reflecting deepening military trust between the two nations. The visit also comes at a time when India continues to modernise its own fighter fleet and evaluate advanced platforms and technologies for future induction.
