Divya Gehlot, wife of Devendra Gehlot and granddaughter-in-law of Karnataka Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot, has filed a police complaint alleging systematic dowry harassment, attempted murder, domestic violence, and the illegal confinement of her four-year-old daughter by her husband and in-laws in Madhya Pradesh.
In her written submission to Ratlam Superintendent of Police on Tuesday, Divya accused her husband Devendra (33), father-in-law and former MLA Jitendra Gehlot (55), brother-in-law Vishal Gehlot (25), and grandmother-in-law Anita Gehlot (60) of demanding ₹50 lakh in dowry and concealing Devendra’s severe alcohol and drug addiction as well as extramarital affairs before their April 2018 marriage conducted under the state’s Kanyadaan Yojana.
The complaint details years of physical and mental torture that escalated during her 2021 pregnancy, including starvation and beatings. The most serious incident allegedly occurred on January 26 this year when, she claims, a heavily intoxicated Devendra assaulted her and pushed her from the rooftop of their Nagda home, causing critical spinal and shoulder injuries; she alleges no medical aid was provided that night and her parents were kept in the dark.

Divya further alleges that after she was shifted to hospitals in Indore, her in-laws have since refused to let her meet or take custody of their daughter, with Devendra reportedly warning her in November that access would be denied until the dowry demand is met. She has pleaded with authorities to secure the child’s immediate return, asserting only a mother can provide proper care.
Ratlam police have accepted the complaint and forwarded it to Ujjain district authorities since most alleged offences occurred in Nagda. Former MLA Jitendra Gehlot responded briefly, stating the family will present all facts at an appropriate time. The case has cast a shadow over the influential political family as investigations begin.
