In a brazen daylight attack, one of the main accused in the 2020 murder of Gurlal Singh Brar—cousin of Canada-based gangster Satinderjeet Singh alias Goldy Brar—was shot dead in Punjab’s Mohali district on Wednesday afternoon. The victim, Gurwinder Singh alias Lambbad, was killed near the Senior Superintendent of Police office in Phase 1 around 3 pm. According to police, two unidentified gunmen opened fire as Gurwinder was opening the boot of his parked car after attending a court hearing. He was hit multiple times at close range and died on the spot. His wife, who was accompanying him, witnessed the attack and later filed a complaint naming Goldy Brar.
Gurwinder had arrived at the court for proceedings in a separate case involving the recovery of 4 kg of opium, where he was out on bail. Police confirmed he had a criminal history and was among those accused in the 2020 shooting of Gurlal Singh Brar in Chandigarh. Eyewitnesses described one assailant wearing a cap and firing several rounds point-blank, while a second waited nearby on a motorcycle before both fled. An unverified social media post and circulating audio clip purportedly from Goldy Brar, along with associates Rohit Godara and Vicky Pehlwan, claimed responsibility for the killing, citing Gurwinder’s alleged role in Gurlal’s death.
The incident has escalated tensions linked to Goldy Brar, who was designated a terrorist under India’s Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act in 2024. He is believed to be in the United States and recently split from the Lawrence Bishnoi gang to form his own faction with Rohit Godara and others. In the alleged audio, the speaker threatened Punjab authorities over the recent arrest of his elderly parents from the Golden Temple premises in a 2024 extortion case, warning that his global network would retaliate if pressure continued. The message emphasized that while officials are confined to Punjab, his operations span the world.

Mohali police have registered a case under murder, criminal conspiracy sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, and the Arms Act against Goldy Brar based on the wife’s statement. Deputy Inspector General Nanak Singh stated that multiple teams are probing all angles, including technical, scientific, and human intelligence leads. Authorities assured swift action to apprehend the killers and those who orchestrated the hit, noting Gurwinder’s prior threats from Goldy Brar. The killing highlights the ongoing cycle of revenge in Punjab’s underworld, especially involving cross-border gangsters.
This latest violence comes amid heightened scrutiny of gang activities in the region, with police vowing to dismantle networks fueling such targeted assassinations.
