Satish Salian, father of Disha Salian, former manager of actor Sushant Singh Rajput, has petitioned the Bombay High Court for a fresh investigation into his daughter's death in June 2020. The petition calls for a First Information Report (FIR) against Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Aaditya Thackeray and requests the case be transferred to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
According to Salian's lawyer Nilesh Ojha, the petition alleges that Disha Salian was subjected to brutal rape and murder, followed by a politically motivated cover-up to shield influential figures. Initially believing in the sincerity of the Mumbai police investigation, Salian now claims it was a deliberate cover-up, hastily concluding her death as suicide or accidental.
Disha Salian died on June 8, 2020, after falling from the 14th floor of a building in Malad. Mumbai police initially registered her death as an Accidental Death Report (ADR). The timing of Satish Salian's plea coincides with the ongoing Budget session of the Maharashtra legislature, prompting skepticism and accusations of conspiracy from Shiv Sena (UBT) spokesperson Kishori Pednekar.
In response, BJP minister Nitesh Rane seized upon the development to criticize Aaditya Thackeray, demanding his resignation and calling for a transparent investigation. Rane reiterated claims that CCTV footage and visitors' records from Salian's building were tampered with or destroyed.
Minister of State Yogesh Kadam assured that the Home department would follow the High Court's directives without political bias. He urged Satish Salian to provide any evidence supporting his claims to facilitate a thorough investigation.
The controversy surrounding Disha Salian's death intertwines with broader political tensions in Maharashtra, notably between the Rane and Thackeray families. As the legal battle unfolds, questions linger over the circumstances and handling of Salian's tragic demise.
