The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has issued a lookout notice against Shantanu Sinha Biswas, a Deputy Commissioner of Kolkata Police, in connection with an ongoing money laundering investigation. The move comes after the officer allegedly failed to respond to multiple summonses issued by the central agency.
According to officials, the lookout notice has been circulated across airports, railway stations, and other transit points to prevent any attempt by Biswas to leave the country. The ED stated that the officer did not appear before investigators despite being served notices on at least five occasions, raising concerns about possible evasion of the probe.
The action follows a series of raids conducted by the agency at two premises linked to Biswas, including his residence in the Ballygunge area of Kolkata. Officials said he was not present during the searches. The ED has also alleged continued non-cooperation, noting that even after repeated notices, there has been no compliance from the officer.

In a related development, Biswas’s two sons were also summoned to appear before the agency at its CGO Complex office a day after the raids. However, they too reportedly failed to appear, further intensifying the agency’s concerns regarding cooperation in the investigation.
The probe has been initiated under the provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) and is linked to a case involving an alleged criminal, Biswajit Podder, also known as Sona Pappu. Podder is reportedly facing multiple charges, including attempted murder, extortion, and criminal conspiracy. The ED has also conducted searches at premises linked to businessman Joy Kamdar as part of the same investigation.
During earlier searches conducted in April, the agency reportedly seized cash worth ₹1.47 crore along with gold and silver valued at over ₹67 lakh, in addition to a country-made firearm. The investigation stems from a First Information Report filed by Kolkata Police against Podder, and Biswas has also been questioned in connection with a separate sand smuggling case involving alleged financial irregularities.
