Two men, Mohd Lateef and Mohd Saeem, were arrested for pelting stones at the New Delhi-Howrah Rajdhani Express near Chandari railway station, damaging three coaches on Tuesday night, a Railway Protection Force (RPF) official said. Assistant Security Commissioner Vivek Verma told PTI that the suspects, apprehended after an extensive search, confessed to the act, admitting they were intoxicated.
The RPF launched a probe immediately after the 10:45 PM incident, which caused panic among passengers but no injuries. Authorities are now investigating the duo’s criminal history and potential links to similar incidents, with the Kanpur-Chandari stretch seeing multiple stone-pelting cases recently. Security at Kanpur Central and nearby areas has been tightened, with increased patrolling and CCTV monitoring.
Such acts, punishable under Section 153 of the Railways Act with up to five years’ imprisonment, highlight ongoing challenges to railway safety, prompting calls for stricter enforcement and public awareness.
