A 23-year-old man was shot dead in the Khajuri Khas area of Northeast Delhi on Tuesday evening, prompting a police investigation and a large-scale search operation to trace the accused. The victim, identified as Raja Mevati alias Akki alias Aakib, was declared dead at a hospital after being rushed there by a Police Control Room (PCR) van. The incident has raised fresh concerns over rising violent crime in parts of the national capital, where multiple shooting cases have been reported in recent weeks.
According to Delhi Police, a firing incident was reported at the Khajuri Khas police station late in the evening, following which teams were immediately dispatched to the location. On arrival, officers found that the injured man had already been shifted to a nearby hospital for emergency treatment. However, doctors confirmed that he had succumbed to his injuries before receiving medical care. Police have registered a case under relevant sections of the law and initiated a detailed investigation into the circumstances surrounding the attack.
A forensic team was also called to the crime scene to collect physical evidence, including ballistic material and other forensic samples that could help establish the sequence of events. Authorities confirmed that multiple police teams have been formed to identify and apprehend those involved in the shooting. Officials said the investigation is ongoing and all possible angles, including personal enmity and local disputes, are being examined as part of the probe.

Preliminary police statements indicate that the attack appeared to be targeted, although the exact motive has not yet been confirmed. Investigators are currently scanning CCTV footage from nearby areas and questioning local residents to gather leads. Police have also not ruled out the possibility of involvement by known criminal elements active in the region, which has witnessed sporadic incidents of gang-related violence in the past.
This incident comes just days after another shooting-related case was reported in the Rohini district of Delhi, where a 21-year-old man sustained a gunshot injury during a party in Jain Nagar under Begampur police jurisdiction. In that case, police suggested the firing may have been accidental, allegedly involving a firearm belonging to one of the victim’s friends. The latest killing has intensified scrutiny on firearm-related incidents in the city and prompted renewed calls for stronger enforcement and preventive policing measures.
Authorities have assured that efforts are underway to apprehend the suspects in the Khajuri Khas case at the earliest. Senior officers stated that teams are actively tracking leads and that further details will be released as the investigation progresses. Meanwhile, the victim’s family has been informed, and post-mortem proceedings are expected to be conducted as part of the ongoing legal process.
