A Delhi Police constable has been arrested after a woman allegedly shot herself with his service revolver during a private party in Noida, Uttar Pradesh, police officials said on Tuesday. The incident took place late at night at a residence where a small gathering was underway, triggering panic among those present.
According to the police, the woman sustained a gunshot injury and was rushed to a nearby hospital, where she is currently undergoing treatment. Her condition has been reported as stable. Preliminary investigations suggest that the firearm used in the incident belonged to the Delhi Police constable, who was attending the party in a personal capacity.
Initial inquiries indicate that the constable had brought his official weapon to the gathering, a serious violation of standard operating procedures. The circumstances under which the woman gained access to the firearm and discharged it are still under investigation. Police are examining whether the shooting was accidental or involved negligence on the part of the officer.

Following the incident, the Delhi Police initiated departmental action and placed the constable under arrest. A case has been registered under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Arms Act. Senior officials said strict action would be taken if lapses in firearm safety protocols are established.
Police officials also stated that statements from witnesses present at the party are being recorded, and forensic analysis of the weapon is underway. The incident has raised concerns over the misuse and careless handling of service weapons by law enforcement personnel outside duty hours. Authorities reiterated that police-issued firearms must be handled with the highest level of responsibility and are not meant to be carried to social gatherings.
