The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) arrested a Delhi Police head constable, Rajkumar Meena, stationed at Ashok Vihar, for allegedly accepting a Rs 1 lakh bribe. The sting operation, executed on Monday, exposed a scheme where Meena and a sub-inspector reportedly demanded Rs 3 lakh from a complainant to avoid registering an FIR against him, officials revealed Tuesday.
Following negotiations, the bribe was reduced to Rs 2 lakh, with assurances that the complaint would be closed without formal charges. Meena allegedly instructed the complainant to pay Rs 1 lakh as an initial installment. “The CBI set a trap and caught Meena red-handed while accepting the bribe,” a CBI spokesperson stated, detailing the meticulously planned operation.
The arrest has sent shockwaves through the Delhi Police, raising questions about integrity within the force. The CBI’s swift action underscores its commitment to rooting out corruption, particularly in law enforcement, where public trust is paramount. The agency is now investigating the sub-inspector’s role in the scheme, as well as any broader network of corrupt practices at the Ashok Vihar station.
