A 35-year-old private car driver died during treatment on Tuesday after being stabbed multiple times in an alleged dispute over a request for extra chole at a Sunday market in outer Delhi’s Nihal Vihar area. The victim, identified as Sandeep, a resident of Rav Vihar, was attacked near Jwalapuri Nala on the evening of October 25. Police have arrested the chole-bhature vendor, Chintu Gupta, and registered a murder case against him following the death. The incident has left the victim’s family devastated and demanding a thorough investigation into all those allegedly involved. According to police, the confrontation began when Sandeep asked the vendor for some additional chole with his order.
An argument ensued, during which the situation rapidly escalated into violence. Sandeep sustained three stab wounds on the left side of his abdomen, three lacerated wounds on his left forearm and another lacerated wound on his wrist. He was initially taken to Sanjay Gandhi Memorial Hospital on the night of the attack and later shifted to Maharaja Agrasen Hospital in Punjabi Bagh for further treatment. Despite medical efforts, he succumbed to his injuries two days later. A senior police officer stated that the injured man was declared unfit to give a statement at the time, prompting an immediate inquiry into the circumstances of the assault. An FIR was registered at the Paschim Vihar West police station on the day of the incident under Section 109(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for attempt to murder.
Following Sandeep’s death, the charges were upgraded to include Section 103(1) for murder. The accused, Chintu Gupta, was arrested during the investigation and has been remanded to judicial custody. Police confirmed that further inquiries are continuing to examine the possible role of other individuals who may have been present or involved in the attack. Officers have emphasised that the nature of the injuries and the events at the scene formed the basis for the serious charges now invoked. Sandeep’s father, Bijender Singh, has alleged that the violence stemmed from a minor disagreement that should never have turned fatal. He recounted that his son had gone to the Sunday market and simply requested extra chole.

An exchange of words followed, during which the vendor allegedly abused Sandeep before the stabbing took place. “My son’s only fault was that he asked the shopkeeper for some extra chole. He was stabbed several times and died after battling for his life for two days,” Singh said. He further claimed that three to four people participated in the assault, yet only the vendor has been arrested so far. The father has called for the identification and arrest of all those involved, stating that the family wants justice. The victim worked as a private car driver and is survived by his wife and two young sons, aged four and ten. Neighbours and family members have expressed shock at the sudden and violent nature of the death, which they attribute to a trivial argument over food.
Eyewitnesses at the market reportedly assisted in moving the injured man after the attack, according to the father’s account. The family initially sought treatment at a nearby facility before arranging the transfer to Maharaja Agrasen Hospital in the hope of better care. Police continue to investigate the full sequence of events and the possible involvement of additional persons. The case underscores how ordinary interactions in busy local markets can escalate with tragic consequences. Authorities have appealed for anyone with information about the incident to come forward, while the family remains focused on securing accountability for the loss of their son and brother. The investigation remains active under the Paschim Vihar West police station as officers work to establish a complete picture of what occurred near Jwalapuri Nala on that Sunday evening.
