A Delhi court on Thursday sentenced a 37-year-old man to life imprisonment for repeatedly raping his 11-year-old daughter, describing his actions as a “shameful betrayal” that shattered the most sacred bond between parent and child. The verdict underscores the severity of crimes against children and the strict enforcement of the law under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
Additional Sessions Judge Amit Sahrawat was hearing the sentencing in a case where the man had already been convicted for rape and aggravated penetrative sexual assault under Section 6 of the POCSO Act. The court examined the gravity of the offense, the breach of trust, and the lasting trauma inflicted upon the young victim before arriving at the sentence.
During the hearing, Special Public Prosecutor Aaditya Kumar argued that the convict did not merit any leniency. He stressed that the heinous nature of the crime had deeply shaken society’s conscience and warranted the maximum punishment permissible under law.

The court highlighted that such acts not only violate legal statutes but also inflict irreparable psychological and emotional damage on victims. By granting a life term, the judiciary aimed to deliver justice to the survivor while sending a strong message about the consequences of sexual crimes against children.
Legal experts noted that convictions under Section 6 of the POCSO Act carry stringent penalties due to the aggravated nature of the assault. The Delhi case reflects the judiciary’s commitment to uphold child protection laws and deter potential offenders through exemplary sentencing.
The ruling is being seen as a critical reminder of society’s collective responsibility to protect children and ensure justice for survivors of sexual abuse. Authorities have reiterated that strict vigilance, swift prosecution, and awareness initiatives are essential to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
