A 38-year-old Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) inspector, Nirmal Upadhyay, was discovered deceased under mysterious circumstances inside his car at Kanpur Central railway station on Friday evening. Upadhyay, a native of Pithoragarh, Uttarakhand, and posted with the CRPF’s 183 Battalion in Pulwama, Jammu and Kashmir, was found on the front passenger seat of his vehicle, prompting a swift response from the Government Railway Police (GRP) and forensic teams.
Railway Circle Officer Dushyant Kumar Singh reported that Upadhyay had left his wife’s residence in Saket Nagar on Friday morning after a reported domestic dispute. A parking contractor noticed the body and alerted the GRP, who recovered a liquor bottle from the vehicle, raising questions about the circumstances of his death.
Upadhyay, who had been on medical leave for 12 days, was allegedly struggling with alcohol addiction and liver-related health issues, according to his wife’s statement to the police. The GRP has launched a thorough investigation, with forensic evidence collected from the scene to determine the cause of death.
A panel of doctors has been assigned to conduct a videographed autopsy, and further action will depend on the postmortem findings. The incident has sent shockwaves through the local community, with authorities working to uncover whether the death was related to personal struggles or other factors, as the investigation continues to unfold.
