Chinese robotics company Unitree Robotics has unveiled a humanoid robot that it claims can perform a 2-metre standing vertical jump and reach a top speed of 12.66 metres per second. The machine, reportedly nicknamed "Superman", demonstrated a combination of speed, balance and explosive movement that the company says places it ahead of several human athletic benchmarks.
At 12.66 metres per second, the reported top speed is equivalent to around 45.6 kmph. That is higher than Usain Bolt's recorded peak speed of approximately 12.42 metres per second during his 100-metre world-record performance in 2009. The robot's claimed standing jump of around 2 metres also exceeds the human standing vertical jump record of roughly 1.8 metres.
The reported performance is notable because the humanoid has relatively short legs measuring around 0.85 metres. Unitree said the robot was developed in a little over three months and still has considerable scope for improvement. A demonstration released by the company shows the machine launching vertically into the air, reaching a height of about 2 metres and landing upright, highlighting its ability to maintain balance during the movement.

Unitree has previously attracted attention for developing fast-moving humanoid robots. In April, its H1 humanoid reportedly achieved a running speed of 10 metres per second. The latest demonstration indicates that the company is working not only on increasing running speed but also on improving agility, stability and the ability of humanoid machines to execute powerful movements.
However, the reported figures have not been independently verified. The speed and jump capabilities are based on Unitree's own demonstration, and it remains unclear whether the robot can consistently maintain those performance levels or reproduce them outside a controlled testing environment. Comparisons with human athletic records also involve different testing conditions, making direct comparisons imperfect.
The demonstration comes as Unitree expands its work in commercial humanoid robotics. The Hangzhou-based company is developing machines designed to become increasingly capable as advances in robotics hardware, artificial intelligence and control systems continue. The latest "Superman" demonstration reflects the rapid progress being made in humanoid mobility, while also underscoring the need for independent testing to establish how the reported capabilities perform in real-world conditions.
