Telugu Desam Party (TDP) president and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu met with C P Radhakrishnan, the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) candidate for the vice-presidential election, on Friday, pledging his party’s full support for the September 9 poll. Accompanied by TDP leaders and MPs, Naidu endorsed Radhakrishnan, the current Governor of Maharashtra, in a strategic move to bolster the NDA’s campaign.
The election was triggered by the unexpected resignation of incumbent Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar on July 21, 2025, citing health concerns, on the opening day of the Monsoon session of Parliament. The Opposition has nominated former Supreme Court judge B Sudershan Reddy as its candidate, setting the stage for a high-stakes contest.
Naidu’s backing of Radhakrishnan underscores the TDP’s alignment with the NDA and its commitment to strengthening the coalition’s position in the upcoming election, which is critical for shaping India’s parliamentary leadership.
