A chilling case of double murder has shaken Madhya Pradesh’s Shahdol district after CCTV footage surfaced showing two brothers being brutally attacked and killed by a mob armed with swords, axes, and sticks. The incident, which occurred late on October 21 in Balbahara village under the Keshavhi police outpost, has sparked widespread outrage and renewed scrutiny over alleged police negligence.
According to eyewitnesses, the victims — three brothers — were sitting inside their auto parts shop after lighting lamps for Diwali when a group of nearly 10 men, led by Anurag Sharma, barged in. The attackers broke down the shop’s door, dragged the men outside, and began assaulting them in a frenzy. The horrifying video shows the assailants striking the victims repeatedly, breaking their limbs and attacking them with lethal precision, while some bystanders allegedly filmed the attack.
One of the brothers died on the spot, and another succumbed to his injuries at Shahdol Medical College. The third, identified as Satish, remains in critical condition after being transferred to a hospital in Bilaspur. Family members claimed they repeatedly called the police for help, but no officers arrived for hours while the attack continued unchecked. They have accused the Keshavhi outpost in charge, Ashish Jharia, of deliberately ignoring the distress calls.

In the aftermath, grief and anger spilled onto the streets as villagers blocked the nearby highway, demanding immediate arrests and strict action. District Collector and SP reached the area and assured the crowd of justice. Following the protests, the outpost in-charge was line-attached, and the Budhar police station chief was removed from duty late at night.
Before succumbing to his injuries, one of the victims, Rahul Tiwari, recorded a dying statement naming Anurag Sharma and his associates as the attackers. Shahdol police have since arrested eight suspects, including Sharma, while several others remain at large. Preliminary investigation indicates that the murders stemmed from an ongoing land dispute between the two families — a motive that police believe triggered the violent ambush.
