A 27-year-old Punjab-origin man has been arrested in Canada in connection with a shooting investigation linked to ongoing extortion-related violence in Surrey, British Columbia. Canadian authorities identified the accused as Jaskaran Saroye.
According to the Surrey Police Service, Saroye was arrested by the force’s Extortion Response Team after officers executed a search warrant on April 13. Investigators said the case involved gunshots being fired into an occupied residence, though no injuries were reported during the incident.
Police stated that the targeted home sustained damage as a result of the shooting. During the investigation, officers reportedly identified a suspect vehicle, which eventually led authorities to obtain a warrant for Saroye’s arrest. The operation was carried out with assistance from the Lower Mainland District Emergency Response Team and additional Surrey Police units.

Saroye has been charged with discharging a firearm into a place while knowing, or being reckless as to whether, individuals were present inside the property. Authorities confirmed that he remains in custody pending a bail hearing, with his next scheduled court appearance set for May 12, 2026.
Norm Lipinski described the offence as extremely serious and said incidents involving gunfire at occupied homes create significant danger and fear within communities. He stated that investigators would continue pursuing individuals and criminal networks allegedly connected to violent extortion activities in the region.
As part of the broader investigation, Surrey Police have also released a photograph of Saroye and appealed to witnesses, victims, or anyone with information related to extortion-linked violence to come forward. Authorities noted that the Surrey Extortion Reward Fund, established in September 2025, offers rewards of up to $250,000 for information leading to charges and convictions in such cases.
