A woman and her teenage son were found stabbed to death inside their residence in the Govindpuri area of southeast Delhi in the early hours of Thursday, with police suspecting robbery as the possible motive behind the double murder. The incident has triggered a major investigation, with multiple police teams deployed to identify and trace those responsible for the killings.
The victims were identified as 38-year-old Sharda Sahu, a homemaker, and her 13-year-old son, who was a Class 7 student. According to police officials, the crime came to light after the woman’s husband, Vishnu Sahu, returned home around 12.30 am. Vishnu Sahu, who works as a fruit and vegetable vendor in local weekly markets, reportedly found the front door of the house latched from the outside upon his arrival.
Police said a distress call regarding the murders was received at approximately 1.11 am. After entering the house, Vishnu Sahu allegedly discovered the bodies of his wife and son lying inside with multiple stab injuries. Senior officers from the southeast district immediately reached the spot following the alert and began preliminary investigations into the circumstances surrounding the killings.

According to Deputy Commissioner of Police Hemant Tiwari, investigators found indications suggesting robbery may have been the motive behind the attack. Officials said some cash and jewelry were reportedly missing from the almirahs inside the house. Police suspect that the accused may have entered the residence with the intention of theft before the situation escalated into a violent attack resulting in the deaths of the two victims.
A forensic science laboratory team and crime investigation experts were deployed to examine the crime scene and collect physical evidence. Authorities are analyzing fingerprints, blood samples, and other forensic material recovered from the house as part of efforts to identify the attackers. Investigators are also examining CCTV footage from nearby areas and questioning local residents to reconstruct the sequence of events leading up to the murders.
Police have registered a case of murder and burglary and said several teams have been formed to crack the case at the earliest. The brutal killing has shocked residents of the Govindpuri neighborhood and raised concerns over violent crimes linked to robbery in residential areas. Officials said further investigation is underway and additional details are expected to emerge after forensic analysis and witness questioning are completed.
