In a decisive crackdown over three days, Jaipur Police seized 141 vehicles for illegal black window tints and other unauthorized modifications, enforcing provisions under the Motor Vehicles Act. The operation was aimed at enhancing road safety and curbing vehicles often linked to criminal activities. Among the seized vehicles were popular SUVs like the Mahindra Thar and Scorpio Classic, highlighting the scale of non-compliance among private vehicle owners in the city.
The action was led by Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Rajashri Raj Varma, with Additional DCP Lalit Sharma overseeing operations. The police targeted vehicles that flouted traffic rules by installing dark tints beyond permissible limits, as well as high-performance bikes with illegal modifications. The crackdown reflects a broader push by Jaipur authorities to ensure compliance with road safety regulations and deter reckless driving behaviors.
Video footage of the drive, shared by Jaipur Dronie on Instagram, showcased the operation in vivid detail. The clip begins with officers peeling off black tints from a Mahindra Scorpio Classic and then shifts to a lineup of black Mahindra Thars. The visuals captured both four-wheelers and two-wheelers, illustrating the comprehensive nature of the enforcement drive across multiple vehicle types.

In total, 100 four-wheelers and 41 modified two-wheelers were seized. High-end motorcycles, including Royal Enfield models and a KTM RC sports bike, were also impounded for illegal exhaust modifications. Aerial drone footage revealed over 20 Mahindra Thars and more than 15 Scorpio Classics among the seized vehicles, alongside Hyundai Cretas and sedans, emphasizing the scale and seriousness of the campaign.
Authorities also removed stickers, decals, and aftermarket tints from all vehicles to ensure compliance with Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989. Rule 100(2), reinforced by a 2012 Supreme Court ruling, strictly prohibits black or VLT films on windscreens and side windows. Even UV-protection films applied after factory manufacture are considered illegal, making post-purchase tinting a clear violation of traffic laws.
The Jaipur Police operation underscores the city’s renewed focus on strict enforcement of traffic regulations. By targeting high-profile vehicles and visible modifications, the authorities aim to discourage motorists from violating rules and reduce potential risks on roads. This campaign sends a strong message that unlawful vehicle alterations will no longer be tolerated in Jaipur.
