First Information Report (FIR) has been registered against popular Bhojpuri actor-singer Pawan Singh and three others on charges of cheating and criminal intimidation, police confirmed on Thursday, September 4, 2025. The case, lodged at the Cantonment police station, stems from a court order issued on Wednesday, following a complaint by a local businessman who claims he was duped in a film investment scheme.
Advocate Ashish Singh, representing complainant Vishal Singh, detailed the allegations, stating that his client was lured into investing in the 2018 Bhojpuri film Boss. The businessman met film director Prem Shankar Rai in Mumbai in 2017, where he was introduced to Pawan Singh and others involved in the project. Enticed by promises of a 50% profit share, Vishal Singh invested approximately Rs 32.60 lakh from his and his brother’s firm through multiple accounts. Later, in July 2018, he was named co-producer of the film and invested an additional Rs 1.25 crore, bringing his total contribution to a staggering sum.
However, after Boss was released, Vishal Singh alleges he received neither his promised profits nor a refund of his investment. When he demanded his dues, Pawan Singh allegedly threatened him with dire consequences, escalating the situation. Frustrated by the lack of action from the Cantonment police and the Commissioner of Police, Vishal Singh approached the court, which prompted the Chief Judicial Magistrate (Second) to direct the police to register a case against Pawan Singh and the three other accused individuals.

The allegations have sent shockwaves through the Bhojpuri film industry, casting a shadow over Pawan Singh’s reputation as a celebrated actor-singer. The FIR includes charges of cheating and other offenses, with the police now tasked with investigating the financial dealings and the alleged threats. As the case unfolds, it raises serious questions about transparency and accountability in the entertainment industry, particularly in regional cinema.
The public and fans await further developments, with the investigation likely to scrutinize the financial transactions and the roles of all parties involved. This legal battle could have significant repercussions for Pawan Singh’s career and serve as a cautionary tale for investors in the film industry.
