In a shocking development in Bengaluru, Dr. Mahendra Reddy, a general surgeon at Victoria Hospital, has been arrested for the alleged murder of his wife, Dr. Kruthika Reddy, a dermatologist at the same hospital. The incident, which occurred on April 21, 2025, in their Munnekollal residence, was initially registered as an unnatural death at Marathahalli Police Station. Six months later, forensic evidence revealed a sinister act, leading to Dr. Mahendra’s arrest on October 14, 2025, in Manipal, Karnataka.
The couple, married on May 26, 2024, appeared to have a stable professional life, but investigations uncovered a grim reality. On the day of the incident, Dr. Mahendra rushed his wife to a nearby hospital, where she was declared dead on arrival. He claimed she was unwell and under treatment, but police investigations pointed to foul play. The Scene of Crime Officer (SOCO) recovered critical evidence, including a cannula set and injection tube, from their home, which was sent for forensic analysis.
The breakthrough came with the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) report, which confirmed the presence of Propofol, a powerful anaesthetic drug, in Dr. Kruthika’s viscera samples, indicating a deliberate overdose. Following this, Dr. Kruthika’s father filed a complaint on October 13, 2025, accusing Dr. Mahendra of murder. Police suspect the accused leveraged his medical expertise to stage the death as natural, a deception unraveled by the forensic findings.

Bengaluru Police Commissioner Seemanth Kumar Singh stated, “Evidence points to the husband’s role in the crime, as he withheld critical information and claimed she was unwell. The presence of sedatives suggests malafide intention, and we are investigating further.” The accused is currently in custody, with ongoing probes exploring whether the act was premeditated. The case has sent shockwaves through Bengaluru’s medical community, raising questions about the motives behind this tragic incident.
