Vodafone Idea Ltd. Chief Executive Officer Abhijit Kishore said on Friday that the company is awaiting the outcome of a reassessment of its adjusted gross revenue (AGR) dues, a key issue affecting its financial position. He noted that the exercise is currently underway and that the company has already submitted all required details to the government and the Department of Telecommunications (DoT). Further clarity, he added, will be shared once the review process is completed.
The government had earlier provided relief to the telecom operator by freezing AGR dues worth ₹87,685 crore for the period between FY2007 and FY2019, following a Supreme Court order. However, these dues remain subject to reassessment under regulatory guidelines. The frozen amount excludes AGR liabilities for FY2018 and FY2019, which were finalised by the court in 2020 and are still payable by the company.
According to statements made in Parliament by Minister of State for Communications Pemmasani Chandra Sekhar, the reassessment will follow deduction verification guidelines set by the DoT. A committee constituted on January 30, 2026, is expected to determine the final outcome of the review. The decision is seen as crucial for Vodafone Idea, which has been grappling with high debt and operational challenges.

On the issue of telecom tariffs, Kishore reiterated that current pricing levels across the industry are not sustainable in the long term. He said that while operators have made incremental or transactional pricing adjustments, there has been no structural revision in tariffs so far. The company has consistently maintained that tariff rationalisation is necessary to support long-term sector viability.
Kishore also outlined the company’s approach to artificial intelligence, stating that Vodafone Idea aims to go beyond being just a user of AI technologies. He said the firm is working on developing proprietary AI-driven solutions, focusing on assistive, agentic, and sovereign AI models. These efforts are intended to improve operational efficiency and deliver enhanced services to customers.
Meanwhile, shares of Vodafone Idea were trading about 1 per cent lower during the day, slightly underperforming the broader Nifty 50 index, which was down by around 1.3 per cent. Market participants are closely watching the AGR reassessment outcome, which could have significant implications for the company’s financial stability and future growth trajectory.
