The high-stakes legal drama over the ₹3,000-crore estate of late businessman Sunjay Kapur took a dramatic turn on Monday, as the Delhi High Court resumed hearings on the inheritance dispute between his first and second families. Representing Samaira, 20, and Kiaan, 15 — Sunjay’s children with actor Karishma Kapoor — senior advocate Mahesh Jethmalani claimed that the will presented by Sunjay’s second wife, Priya Sachdev Kapur, was forged to disinherit the first family.
Jethmalani pointed out glaring anomalies in the disputed document, including a misspelling of his son’s name and an incorrect address for his daughter, calling them “very uncharacteristic of Sunjay Kapur.” He argued that Sunjay, who was in good health before his death in the UK earlier this year, had maintained close relations with his children and would not have intentionally excluded them from his estate.

Describing the will as an “ominously uncertified document,” Jethmalani alleged that its digital record showed suspicious modifications on March 17, 21, and 24 — days after it was supposedly finalized. Priya Kapur’s counsel said the changes merely reflected file uploads, but Jethmalani insisted they indicated tampering, suggesting that “two wills” had been created.
The lawyer further alleged the existence of a secret WhatsApp group involving Priya Kapur and her associate Dinesh Agarwal, where messages about “signed wills” were exchanged — with acknowledgments coming only from Priya’s account, not Sunjay’s.
The will in question reportedly leaves the bulk of Sunjay’s personal estate to Priya, granting her substantial control over properties and trusts. Jethmalani accused her of being “greedy,” noting that she allegedly took 60% of the assets and allocated only 12% to her own son, Azarias.
Sunjay’s mother, Rani Kapur, has also joined the case, claiming she too was cut out of her son’s estate. With multiple family members challenging the same will, the courtroom battle over the Kapur family fortune shows no sign of slowing down.
