Pakistan cricketer Haider Ali, 24, has been provisionally suspended by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) following his arrest in England over an alleged rape during the Pakistan Shaheens’ tour. Greater Manchester Police confirmed the arrest, stating that a 24-year-old man was detained after a rape report on August 4, 2025, related to an incident on July 23 at a Manchester premises. The suspect, released on bail, has not been named by police, per UK protocol.
The PCB, acknowledging the investigation, emphasized cooperation with UK authorities and has provided legal support to Ali, who pleaded not guilty, according to sources. The board’s statement noted that Ali’s suspension is effective immediately, pending the investigation’s outcome, with potential further action under its Code of Conduct. Ali was arrested at Beckenham ground during a match against MCSAC on August 3, with his passport seized.
Ali, a promising batter compared to Rohit Sharma for his compact technique, debuted internationally in 2020, playing two ODIs and 35 T20Is, scoring 505 T20I runs with three fifties. His career, previously marred by a 2021 PSL suspension for Covid-19 protocol breaches, now faces another setback. The Shaheens’ tour, from July 17 to August 6, included two drawn three-day matches and a 2-1 one-day series win.

The case echoes Pakistan cricket’s 2010 spot-fixing scandal, raising concerns about recurring controversies. The PCB plans its own inquiry in the UK, with most players, except Ali and captain Saud Shakeel, having returned home.
