OnePlus has teased its upcoming flagship smartphone, the OnePlus 16, with a strong focus on gaming performance and advanced hardware upgrades. The company has confirmed that the device will introduce new gaming-oriented technologies, while leaks suggest major improvements in the processor, display, camera system and battery capacity. The smartphone is expected to launch in China in the second half of 2026, although the company has not revealed an exact release date.
The OnePlus 16 is expected to feature several performance enhancements aimed at delivering a smoother gaming experience. OnePlus has confirmed technologies such as the Wind Chaser Gaming Core, High Refresh Rate technology and the E-Sports Triple-Chip System. These features are designed to improve frame stability, reduce gaming latency, optimise performance and enhance power efficiency during intensive usage.
Under the hood, the flagship smartphone is expected to be powered by Qualcomm’s upcoming Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro chipset, reportedly carrying the model number SM8975. Leaks suggest that the processor could offer clock speeds of up to 5GHz, bringing improvements in overall performance, artificial intelligence capabilities and energy management compared with previous-generation chipsets.

The OnePlus 16 is also expected to receive display and design upgrades. Reports suggest that the device may feature a 6.78-inch flat BOE display with ultra-thin bezels and support for a 165Hz refresh rate. The higher refresh rate is expected to provide smoother animations, scrolling and enhanced responsiveness during gaming. Design leaks indicate a possible shift to a circular rear camera module, replacing the square camera arrangement seen on earlier models.
In terms of photography and battery, the smartphone is rumoured to feature a 200MP periscope telephoto camera aimed at improving zoom capabilities and image quality. While OnePlus has not officially confirmed the camera specifications, the device is expected to include flagship-level sensors. The phone is also tipped to come with a massive 9,000mAh battery, which would be a significant increase over the OnePlus 15’s reported 7,300mAh battery capacity.
OnePlus China General Manager Liu Baoyou has confirmed that the OnePlus 16 will arrive in China in the second half of 2026. While pricing and global availability details remain unconfirmed, the upcoming flagship is expected to compete in the premium smartphone segment with its combination of gaming features, high-end hardware and long-lasting battery performance.
