Mumbai police are gearing up for a massive security operation on Anant Chaturdashi, the culminating day of the Ganesh festival, with over 21,000 personnel deployed to ensure law and order during idol immersions. This marks the first time artificial intelligence will be integrated for route management and traffic updates, enhancing efficiency amid the city's bustling celebrations.
The deployment includes 12 additional commissioners, 40 deputy commissioners, 61 assistant commissioners, 3,000 officers, and 18,000 constables, supplemented by 14 State Reserve Police Force companies, four Central Armed Police Forces units, quick response teams, and Bomb Detection and Disposal Squads.
Joint Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) Satyanarayan Choudhary announced that approximately 6,500 community Ganesh idols and 1.75 lakh household idols will be immersed at beaches, water bodies, and 205 artificial lakes across Mumbai. Coordinated with the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation, the plan includes lifeguards at immersion sites for safety. Advanced monitoring will feature drones for crowd oversight and 10,000 CCTVs citywide, while private drone usage is banned to prevent disruptions.
Traffic management remains a priority, with Joint Commissioner Anil Kumbhare confirming dedicated personnel to facilitate smooth vehicle flow during the processions. This extensive setup aims to handle the influx of devotees, preventing incidents in a festival that draws millions to Mumbai's streets, blending devotion with vibrant cultural displays.
