The cloudburst which struck Jodh Ghati village and Janglote in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kathua district claimed seven lives and left several injured amid torrential overnight rains. The Indian Army swiftly mobilized helicopters and multiple columns to conduct rescue operations in the devastated areas, officials reported.
The Army’s Dhruv helicopters airlifted 15 injured individuals to a hospital in Pathankot, Punjab, ensuring critical medical attention. Troops from the Rising Star Corps, in coordination with local police, the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), and community members, are working tirelessly to rescue stranded families, provide food, and deliver medical care.
Deputy Commissioner Kathua, Rajesh Sharma, who is overseeing the operation, confirmed that relief efforts are in full swing despite significant challenges. “Heavy rainfall has caused extensive damage in Kathua, resulting in tragic loss of life. Five fatalities and seven injuries were reported, with two additional deaths in Janglote. Connectivity remains an issue, but we are ensuring essential supplies reach those in need, including through air support,” Sharma stated.
