Ajay Kumar Shrivastava has taken the helm as Director (Engineering and R&D) at Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), effective July 15, the company announced. Previously serving as Executive Director at HAL’s Aircraft Research & Design Centre, Shrivastava brings a wealth of expertise to this pivotal role.
With a 37-year career at HAL, starting as a Management Trainee in 1988, Shrivastava has spearheaded transformative projects. His leadership roles include heading the Aircraft Research & Design Centre and the Transport Aircraft Research and Design Centre. He played a crucial part in modernizing avionics for aircraft like the HS-748, Do-228, Sea King helicopter, and IL-78.
Shrivastava’s achievements include securing DGCA certification for two Do-228 aircraft, marking India’s first indigenously developed transport civil passenger aircraft, and the Hindustan-228. His efforts in indigenizing critical aircraft components have bolstered India’s self-reliance in aerospace. He also led the design and development of trainer, fighter, and transport aircraft, as well as rotary-wing platforms.

Honored with the prestigious FASIA (French Aeronautics & Space Industry Award), Shrivastava showcased his expertise with the successful avionics upgrade of the Hindustan Jet Trainer-36 ‘Yashas’ at Aero India 2025. His appointment signals a bold future for HAL’s innovation in India’s aviation sector.
