Akasa Air, India’s dynamic low-cost carrier, is set to transform travel with the launch of daily direct flights from Mumbai to Phuket, Thailand, beginning September 20, 2025. This strategic move marks the airline’s entry into Southeast Asia, adding Phuket as its sixth international destination alongside Doha, Jeddah, Riyadh, Abu Dhabi, and Kuwait City.
Operating from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport, Akasa will deploy its fuel-efficient Boeing 737 MAX aircraft, ensuring passenger comfort and reliability for the vibrant beach destination.
The Mumbai-Phuket route taps into the surging demand from Indian travelers, with over 1.2 million visiting Thailand in 2024, per Thailand’s Tourism Authority. Timed to coincide with India’s festive season and Thailand’s peak tourism period, the daily flights offer seamless connectivity for leisure and business travelers alike.
Akasa’s expansion aligns with its vision to strengthen ties within SAARC and ASEAN regions, fostering economic and cultural exchanges while capitalizing on India’s growing outbound tourism market. To stay competitive, Akasa is leveraging its reputation for affordability and customer-centric services, including complimentary in-flight meals and pet-friendly policies.
The airline is also eyeing future growth with fleet expansion and new infrastructure like the upcoming Navi Mumbai and Noida International Airports. Despite challenges like fuel price volatility and competition from carriers like IndiGo, Akasa’s promotional fares and loyalty incentives position it to capture significant market share in the India-Thailand corridor.
