Priti Adani, Chairperson of the Adani Foundation, announced a major expansion of the Swabhimaan initiative aimed at empowering women through livelihood opportunities and entrepreneurship support. Speaking at the “Swabhimaan – The Rise of SHE” event in Mumbai on March 12, she highlighted the programme’s progress and outlined plans to significantly scale its reach across the country. The initiative focuses on helping women from urban underprivileged communities gain financial independence through training, enterprise development and access to financial resources.
During her address, Priti Adani emphasised the impact the programme has already had in Mumbai, where around 4,500 women have benefited from skill development programmes, financial literacy training and entrepreneurship guidance. She noted that several women participating in the initiative have successfully launched their own businesses, creating new sources of income for their families. According to her, empowering women not only improves individual livelihoods but also strengthens entire families and communities.
The Adani Foundation now plans to expand the initiative on a much larger scale. Under the next phase, the programme aims to include about one lakh women from Maharashtra while setting a broader target of empowering ten lakh women across India over the next five years. The expansion will focus on training, enterprise-building assistance and improving financial inclusion for women who previously lacked access to such opportunities.

The Swabhimaan initiative, implemented by the Adani Foundation in partnership with Adani Electricity and Mahila Arthik Vikas Mahamandal, seeks to equip women with essential business and governance skills. Through the programme, several Self Help Groups (SHGs) have evolved into Enterprise Self Help Groups (ESHGs), enabling women to start sustainable ventures. The event in Mumbai also featured stalls where women entrepreneurs showcased products and services developed through the initiative, demonstrating how structured support and skill development can help transform livelihoods.
