The Adani Foundation and Akhand Jyoti Eye Hospital have inaugurated a major eye care expansion project in Bihar’s Saran district, aimed at improving affordable healthcare access in underserved rural regions. The inauguration ceremony was attended by Gautam Adani and Priti Adani, who also laid the foundation stone for the Akhand Jyoti Eye Hospital–Adani Centre for Eye Diseases. The leaders were felicitated during the event after offering prayers at a Gayatri temple in Saran earlier in the day.
The newly expanded facility in Mastichak has been designed as a large-scale healthcare and training hub focused on advanced eye treatments and skill development. The project includes specialized institutions such as the Adani Centre for Eye Diseases and the Adani Training Centre for Ophthalmic Sciences. The initiative aims to improve access to quality eye care for patients across North and Central India, especially those from economically weaker backgrounds.
Hospital authorities said the expanded campus will significantly increase its patient-handling capacity over the coming years. A large number of treatments and surgeries are expected to be offered free of cost or at subsidized rates for underprivileged patients. The facility is equipped with modern medical technology to treat various eye-related conditions, including cataracts, glaucoma, retinal disorders, and pediatric vision problems.

A major focus of the project is employment-oriented skill development for rural youth and women. The training center will provide courses in optometry and allied healthcare services, helping create skilled manpower for the healthcare sector. Officials said the initiative is expected to generate employment opportunities while also addressing shortages of trained ophthalmic professionals in rural India.
The expansion builds on the long journey of Akhand Jyoti Eye Hospital, which began operations in 2005 with a small setup in Bihar. Over the years, the hospital has grown into a major charitable healthcare institution and has reportedly performed surgeries on more than 1.4 million patients. Its outreach programs have also helped improve eye care awareness in remote communities across multiple states.
The Adani Foundation’s broader vision care initiatives have additionally contributed through eye screening programs and free spectacle distribution drives in several parts of India. With the launch of the new project, the foundation said it aims to combine healthcare delivery, medical education, and rural empowerment under one integrated model. The initiative is expected to strengthen affordable eye care infrastructure while expanding access to specialized treatment in underserved regions.
