Adani Energy Solutions Ltd (AESL) on Tuesday announced that it has achieved the highest Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) score globally among companies in the Utilities sector, following the latest review by S&P Global. The company received an ESG Score of 90 out of 100, compared with an industry average of 41.
The company’s latest assessment followed the completion of S&P Global’s Media and Stakeholder Analysis review. AESL noted that a governance-related assessment that had previously affected its score was corrected during the latest review, resulting in a significant improvement in its overall ESG standing. Its score rose from 81 in the previous assessment.
AESL’s disclosure-based Corporate Sustainability Assessment score also increased by 17 points year-on-year to 90. The company recorded strong performance across the three ESG pillars, with an Environmental score of 93, Social score of 89 and Governance and Economic score of 84, according to the Adani Group company.

The company identified Product Stewardship, Climate Strategy and Human Capital Management as key contributors to its latest performance. AESL Chief Executive Officer Kandarp Patel described the global ESG ranking as a significant milestone and highlighted the company’s focus on integrating sustainability into its decision-making and strengthening environmental performance, social impact, governance standards and disclosures.
AESL is India’s largest private transmission and distribution company, with a cumulative transmission network of 29,739 circuit kilometres and a transformation capacity of 1,43,425 MVA. Its electricity distribution operations serve approximately 13 million consumers in metropolitan Mumbai and the industrial hub of Mundra SEZ.
The company is also expanding its smart metering operations and is working towards becoming India’s leading smart metering integrator. Its latest ESG assessment places its sustainability performance among the strongest in the global utilities sector, according to the company’s disclosure following S&P Global’s review.
