Flight operations at Chennai International Airport faced significant disruption on Tuesday, October 28, 2025, as Cyclone Montha brewing in the southwest Bay of Bengal triggered widespread cancellations. IndiGo, the worst-hit carrier, axed nine domestic flights—six arrivals and three departures—due to unsafe flying conditions caused by the intensifying cyclonic system.
Among the cancelled arrivals were flights from Rajahmundry (6E7734), Vijayawada (6E7139, 6E7263), and Visakhapatnam (6E6089, 6E0845, 6E0881). Departures to Vijayawada (6E7291), Rajahmundry (6E7172), and Visakhapatnam (6E0917) were also grounded. All cancellations were officially attributed to “cyclonic conditions in the region.”
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast that Cyclone Montha will intensify and make landfall along the Andhra Pradesh coast, prompting precautionary measures across southern India. While Chennai is not in the direct path, strong winds and turbulent weather have already impacted regional air traffic.

Airport authorities and airlines have urged passengers to check flight status in real-time via official websites or customer support before traveling. With the cyclone expected to escalate, further disruptions remain possible in the coming days.
As Montha barrels toward landfall, travelers are advised to stay updated and plan alternative arrangements to avoid last-minute inconvenience.
