Indian Railways is expected to introduce the Bengaluru–Mumbai Vande Bharat Sleeper Express in November, offering passengers a faster overnight travel option between two of the country's major cities. The inaugural service is proposed for November 1, coinciding with Karnataka Rajyotsava, the state's formation day. The train is expected to become India's second Vande Bharat Sleeper service, following the launch of the Howrah–Kamakhya route earlier in 2026. However, the schedule for regular commercial operations is yet to be officially confirmed.
The new service is expected to cover approximately 1,118 kilometres between Bengaluru and Mumbai in around 16 hours, potentially reducing journey time by several hours compared with existing direct trains. The Udyan Express, a major daily service connecting the two cities, generally takes around 22 to 24 hours. The sleeper train is intended to improve long-distance connectivity by allowing passengers to travel overnight in air-conditioned sleeping accommodation and arrive at their destination the following day.
The proposed route will connect Bengaluru with Mumbai through several important stations, including Anantapur, Guntakal, Raichur, Kalaburagi, Solapur, Pune and Kalyan. The train is expected to operate between Sir M Visvesvaraya Terminal in Bengaluru and Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus in Mumbai, although the final timetable and stopping pattern remain subject to official confirmation. Railway authorities are expected to release the confirmed operational details before regular services begin.

The train is planned to have 16 coaches with a total capacity of 823 berths. The configuration is expected to include 11 air-conditioned three-tier coaches offering 611 berths, four air-conditioned two-tier coaches with 188 berths and one first-class AC coach with 24 berths. Designed for long-distance travel, the train will feature improved berth cushioning, automatic doors, connected coach interiors and enhanced suspension intended to provide a more comfortable journey.
Safety and passenger convenience are also central to the train's design. Expected features include the indigenous Kavach train-protection system, emergency communication facilities, CCTV surveillance and improved sanitation arrangements. The train is designed for semi-high-speed operations, with a maximum testing speed of up to 180 kmph, although actual operating speeds will depend on railway infrastructure and approved schedules.
Indicative ticket prices have been reported at approximately Rs 2,600 to Rs 4,250, depending on the accommodation class, but Indian Railways has yet to announce the official fare structure. The launch is expected to strengthen rail connectivity between Karnataka and Maharashtra, particularly for business travellers, families and passengers seeking a quicker overnight alternative. Travellers should wait for the official timetable, booking dates and confirmed fares before making travel plans.
