A jaw-dropping 42% of Indian travellers forget essential items like socks, shirts, and tops on their holidays, according to a new report by Booking.com and YouGov.com The ‘Summer Travel Research 2025’ survey, conducted among over 1,000 Indian travellers across 10 cities who journeyed between April and May 2025, reveals a surprising list of forgotten items, from electronics like earphones and chargers (37%) to toiletries (36%), glasses (30%), and even jewellery or watches (22%).
Shockingly, 17% have left behind critical documents like passports, while others forgot quirky items like hair extensions (15%), teeth aligners (13%), and even pets (12%)! When packing, phone chargers (35%), toothbrushes or toothpaste (33%), medicines (29%), and earphones (28%) top the list of overlooked essentials, alongside umbrellas (26%) and sunglasses (25%).
On the flip side, travellers bring home toiletry kits (44%), coffee or tea bags (41%), slippers (25%), and newspapers (28%). For snacks, 54% pack dry treats like namkeen and biscuits, while 41% opt for nuts and 37% carry home-cooked thepla or paratha.

Santosh Kumar, Booking.com’s Regional Manager for South Asia, noted, “Indian travellers blend convenience with cultural ties, but forgotten items and unexpected twists often shape their journeys, making local experiences unforgettable.” The report highlights how these packing mishaps reflect the chaotic charm of Indian travel.
