Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tejashwi Yadav unleashed a bold attack on the NDA government’s Jeevika Didi scheme, unveiling ambitious promises for the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections. Targeting women associated with self-help groups under the Jeevika initiative, Yadav pledged to make all Jeevika Community Mobilisers (CM) permanent government employees with a monthly salary of Rs 30,000.
“This isn’t just a promise—it’s addressing the long-standing demands of Jeevika Didis who’ve faced injustice under this government,” Yadav declared. He further sweetened the deal, announcing that interest on existing loans for Jeevika Didis would be waived, with interest-free credit provided for the next two years. Additionally, each Jeevika Didi would receive a Rs 2,000 monthly allowance and Rs 5 lakh in insurance coverage. These measures position the RJD’s campaign as a direct challenge to the NDA’s handling of the World Bank-aided Bihar Rural Livelihoods Project (BRLP), popularly known as Jeevika, aimed at empowering rural poor women.
Yadav didn’t stop there. In a second major poll promise, he vowed to grant permanent government jobs to all contractual workers across Bihar’s state departments. “Contractual workers face physical, mental, and economic exploitation. Their services are terminated without reason, and 18% GST is deducted from their salaries. We will end this,” he asserted, promising to elevate their status to permanent government employees if RJD comes to power.

Reiterating a previous guarantee, Yadav committed to ensuring a government job for every household in Bihar within 20 months of forming the government. “We’ll pass a new act within 20 days, and within 20 months, no household will be without a government job,” he said, outlining an aggressive timeline for economic transformation.
The Jeevika Didi scheme, part of the BRLP, has been a cornerstone of rural empowerment in Bihar, but Yadav’s promises aim to overhaul its structure, addressing grievances and offering unprecedented financial security. With these announcements, the RJD is setting the stage for a high-stakes electoral battle, positioning itself as the champion of Bihar’s working women and contractual employees.
