Social media influencer Manjeet Kaur, 28, died at PGIMER Chandigarh on August 26, nearly two months after she was allegedly abducted and attacked in Punjab. Kaur had been undergoing treatment for severe injuries since the alleged incident in July. Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the attack and have not yet established a motive.

According to a complaint filed by Kaur’s mother, she was allegedly lured to meet two acquaintances, identified as Shubhi and Pinda, near a liquor shop in Sector 34, Chandigarh, on July 3. The complaint alleges that the two forced her into a car and took her to Morinda in Rupnagar district, where she was allegedly assaulted and tied to a tree before being set on fire. A friend who reportedly reached the location intervened and helped extinguish the flames.

Kaur was initially taken to a hospital in Morinda and later shifted to Mohali for treatment. Due to the severity of her injuries, she was referred to PGIMER Chandigarh on July 9. She remained unconscious for several weeks before briefly regaining consciousness on August 5, when she reportedly told her family about the incident.

In a social media update shared on July 28, Punjab-based influencer GillMohali appealed to people not to speculate about Kaur’s condition or the circumstances surrounding the incident. He expressed hope that she would recover and eventually speak about what had happened. Kaur, however, did not get the opportunity to publicly recount the incident, as her condition subsequently deteriorated.

Following her death, an FIR was registered under Sections 140(1) for kidnapping, 103(1) for murder and 3(5) relating to joint criminal liability under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Sector 34 SHO Shadi Lal confirmed that the case was registered on the basis of Kaur’s mother’s complaint.

Police are conducting raids to trace and arrest the two accused, Shubhi and Pinda, while investigators are examining CCTV footage and other evidence. Kaur was divorced and is survived by her seven-year-old son. The investigation remains ongoing, with police yet to determine the motive behind the alleged attack.
