Prime Minister Modi also conveyed his greetings through a series of posts on X, stating that India’s commitment to the ideals of Lord Buddha remains strong. He said Buddha’s teachings continue to inspire values of peace, harmony, and compassion, and urged citizens to deepen the spirit of togetherness in society. Modi described Buddha Purnima as a sacred occasion that encourages reflection on ethical living and social responsibility.
Buddha Purnima, observed on the full moon day of the Vaisakha month, is one of the most significant festivals in Buddhism. It commemorates the birth of Siddhartha Gautama in Lumbini, his enlightenment under the Bodhi tree in Bodh Gaya, and his attainment of Mahaparinirvana in Kushinagar. These events collectively represent the spiritual journey of the Buddha and the foundation of his teachings.
The day is widely observed across India and the world with prayers, meditation, and reflections on the Four Noble Truths and the Eightfold Path. Devotees use the occasion to renew their commitment to compassion, mindfulness, and the elimination of suffering, following the core principles laid down by Lord Buddha over two millennia ago.
