The ongoing Char Dham Yatra in Uttarakhand is witnessing a massive influx of devotees, with nearly 1.6 lakh pilgrims having visited the Kedarnath Temple since the opening of its portals on April 22, officials confirmed on Monday. Authorities said the pilgrimage season is progressing smoothly despite heavy footfall at the sacred Himalayan shrine.
Rudraprayag District Magistrate Vishal Mishra said the large turnout reflects the deep religious faith and enthusiasm of devotees from across the country. He noted that he has been stationed at Kedarnath since the temple doors opened, personally overseeing arrangements and monitoring the movement of pilgrims to ensure an orderly darshan experience.
Officials acknowledged that managing such a large crowd has posed logistical challenges. With long queues forming at peak hours, authorities said darshan is taking time, though systems have been put in place to regulate flow and improve efficiency. Incidents of petty theft, including mobile snatching and pickpocketing, have also been reported, prompting increased vigilance by security personnel.

The administration has assured that strict monitoring is in place to address safety concerns. Continuous inspections are being carried out, and special attention is being given to transport and helipad operations to avoid inconvenience for pilgrims arriving by different routes. Officials emphasized that coordination between police and administrative teams has been strengthened for better crowd management.
Meanwhile, other key pilgrimage sites under the Char Dham circuit, including Badrinath, Yamunotri, and Gangotri, are also experiencing steady footfall. According to the State Emergency Operations Centre in Dehradun, a total of 2,38,590 pilgrims had visited the four shrines by Saturday evening, with nearly 55,998 devotees recorded on a single day, reflecting the rising momentum of the yatra.
Authorities in Haridwar said registration and logistical arrangements are being streamlined to handle the growing number of pilgrims. With both offline and online registration systems in place, officials stated that coordinated efforts across departments are ensuring a smoother pilgrimage experience as the annual religious journey continues at full pace.
