Cricketers across India took to social media to extend warm wishes on the occasion of Gudi Padwa, marking the Marathi New Year, and its regional counterparts celebrated across the country. Former India cricket captain Sachin Tendulkar and T20 World Cup-winning captain Suryakumar Yadav led the celebrations, sharing messages of renewal and optimism with their fans and followers.
Tendulkar took to X to address his fans, writing, “Wishing you and your family a very Happy Gudi Padwa and Marathi New Year. May this New Year bring happiness, joy, and prosperity — this is my heartfelt prayer.” His message reflected the festive spirit of gratitude and hope that characterises the occasion.
Suryakumar Yadav also shared his greetings on social media, encouraging people to embrace fresh beginnings. “Let’s welcome new beginnings along with new dreams. Wishing everyone a very Happy Gudi Padwa!” he wrote, echoing the themes of positivity and renewal commonly associated with the festival.

Other prominent cricketers joined the celebrations. Former spinner Harbhajan Singh highlighted the broader connections of the festival, noting, “New year. New energy. One connection. We are connected — to health, to tradition, to you. Happy Ugadi & Gudi Padwa.” Legendary batter VVS Laxman emphasised India’s cultural diversity, wishing followers across multiple regional New Year celebrations, including Ugadi, Cheti Chand, Navreh, and Sajibu Nongma Panba.
Batter Ajinkya Rahane and former spinner and coach Anil Kumble also extended heartfelt wishes, hoping for joy, prosperity, and success in the coming year.
Gudi Padwa, celebrated with colourful processions, traditional rituals, and festive foods, marks the beginning of the Hindu lunisolar calendar and is widely observed in Maharashtra. Its coinciding regional counterparts—Ugadi in Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh, Cheti Chand in Sindhi communities, Navreh in Kashmir, and Sajibu Nongma Panba in Manipur—reflect India’s rich cultural tapestry and unity in diversity.
