A chartered accountant has accused self-styled godman Ashok Kharat of orchestrating a fraud worth ₹8.76 crore, prompting authorities to initiate a detailed investigation into the allegations.According to the complaint filed with local police, the accused allegedly persuaded the victim to invest substantial amounts of money over a period of time by promising unusually high financial returns. The complainant claimed that the investments were presented as secure and lucrative, often backed by assurances linked to spiritual guidance and influence, which ultimately proved to be deceptive.
Police officials confirmed that a case has been registered and that a preliminary probe is underway. Investigators are currently examining bank records, transaction trails, and communication between the two parties to establish how the funds were transferred and whether there was deliberate intent to defraud. Authorities are also assessing if the accused used similar methods with other individuals.
The case has attracted significant attention in Nashik, particularly due to the involvement of a ‘godman’ figure. Such individuals often command a degree of trust and influence, which, experts say, can sometimes be exploited in financial dealings. Officials are exploring whether the alleged fraud was part of a larger pattern or an isolated incident involving the complainant.

Legal experts indicate that if the allegations are substantiated, the accused could face serious charges under sections related to cheating, criminal breach of trust, and financial fraud. These offences carry stringent penalties, including imprisonment and fines, depending on the scale and intent established during the investigation.
Meanwhile, police have urged the public to exercise caution while engaging in financial transactions, especially those involving informal investment schemes or individuals claiming guaranteed returns. Authorities have also appealed to anyone who may have had similar experiences with the accused to come forward and assist in the ongoing investigation. Further developments are expected as the inquiry progresses and more details emerge.
