In an unusual twist, a thief in Karnataka has approached the police as a complainant after his alleged accomplice absconded with stolen property, prompting authorities to register a case while also probing the criminal act itself. The incident has drawn attention for highlighting the irony of a burglar seeking legal remedy over a dispute arising from a theft.
According to police officials, the man claimed that he and his partner had jointly committed a burglary and agreed to divide the stolen items later. However, after the theft, the accomplice allegedly disappeared with the valuables, cutting off all contact and leaving the complainant empty-handed. Frustrated by the betrayal, the man decided to approach the police to report what he described as cheating and breach of trust.
The complaint reportedly detailed how the duo planned and executed the burglary, including the location and nature of the stolen items. Police said the man admitted his own involvement in the crime while insisting that his grievance was limited to being deceived by his partner. The unusual confession immediately raised red flags for investigators.

Officials said that while the complaint was noted, the man could not be treated merely as a victim, given his admission of criminal involvement. Police have initiated an inquiry to trace the absconding accomplice and recover the stolen property, while also examining the complainant’s role in the offence. Legal action is likely against both individuals under relevant sections of the law.
The case has sparked discussion within police circles about the increasing number of instances where disputes among criminals spill over into formal complaints. Officers noted that such cases often provide valuable leads, as confessions made in frustration can help solve crimes that might otherwise go unreported.
Authorities reiterated that approaching the police does not grant immunity from prosecution, even if the complainant provides information. The incident serves as a reminder that criminal acts remain punishable regardless of internal fallouts, and those involved can expect legal consequences even when they turn to the law for redress.
