Pakistani authorities have launched an extensive search and rescue operation after a privately operated K2 Airways cargo aircraft carrying five crew members went missing off the coast of Karachi on Tuesday evening. The Boeing cargo plane disappeared while approaching its destination after departing from Sharjah in the United Arab Emirates, prompting a coordinated emergency response involving military and civilian agencies.
According to the Pakistan Airport Authority (PAA), the aircraft was en route from Sharjah to Karachi when it reported a technical issue to air traffic controllers before contact was lost. Officials said radar data later showed unusual flight behaviour, including a rapid descent and abrupt changes in direction, raising concerns about the aircraft's condition in the moments before communication ceased. The circumstances surrounding the disappearance remain under investigation.
Following the loss of contact, authorities immediately launched search and rescue operations covering coastal areas and the Arabian Sea. Pakistan's military and civilian rescue teams have been deployed to locate the missing aircraft and its five crew members. Maritime assets, aviation authorities and emergency responders are working together to search the suspected area where the aircraft is believed to have disappeared, although officials have not yet confirmed the exact location of the plane.

Investigators are examining the information transmitted before the aircraft went off radar, including the reported technical malfunction and flight path data. Aviation experts are expected to analyse communication records, radar information and other available evidence to determine what may have caused the aircraft to deviate from its planned route. Authorities have not indicated whether adverse weather, mechanical failure or any other factor contributed to the incident.
The disappearance has drawn significant attention within Pakistan's aviation sector as officials continue efforts to locate the aircraft. Search operations have expanded into the Arabian Sea, where rescue teams are racing against time to find any trace of the cargo plane or its crew. The Pakistan Airport Authority has said updates will be provided as more information becomes available, while the investigation into the incident continues alongside the ongoing search and rescue mission.
