Mumbai-based Classic Legends, the Mahindra Group-backed manufacturer of iconic motorcycle brands Jawa, Yezdi, and BSA, is poised for a public listing within the next 12 to 18 months, according to Managing Director and Co-Founder Anupam Thareja.
In an interview with PTI on August 17, 2025, Thareja outlined the company’s strategic vision to establish a credible mid-market global motorcycle brand, emphasizing that the listing is a strategic move to support its global ambitions rather than a mere capital-raising exercise.
Thareja confirmed that Classic Legends, which recently introduced stock options for employees and has existing investors, is financially robust with a capital reserve of Rs 875 crore. “Listing is a reality, and it has nothing to do with unlocking shareholder value. This is a global company we are creating,” he stated.
When pressed on the timeline, Thareja affirmed, “Will it happen in 12 to 18 months? Why not, of course.” The decision reflects the company’s bold approach, exemplified by its choice to launch the BSA brand in the UK before India, a move Thareja described as driven by “audacity” and a belief in filling the global demand for a mid-market motorcycle brand.
On the electric vehicle front, Classic Legends is prepared to launch its electric motorcycle but is awaiting market readiness, particularly in terms of charging infrastructure and retail financing. Thareja noted that the premium “classics” segment, which the company specializes in, requires long-range batteries, which remain costly. He predicted that electric adoption in two-wheelers would first gain traction in scooters and commuter bikes before reaching the premium segment.

The company’s global outlook is further strengthened by its electric vehicle R&D center in Coventry, UK, supported by a 50% grant from the UK government. This facility is actively developing electric motorcycles, with Thareja indicating a high likelihood of the UK being the first market for the electric bike’s launch. Details of the launch remain undisclosed.
Classic Legends’ strategic moves underscore its commitment to blending heritage with innovation, positioning Jawa, Yezdi, and BSA as global contenders in the mid-market motorcycle segment. The anticipated public listing will provide the capital and visibility needed to accelerate this vision, marking a significant milestone for the company and the Indian automotive industry
