Petrol and diesel prices across major Indian cities on March 18 remained largely stable, even as global crude oil markets continue to witness volatility due to geopolitical tensions. Daily fuel rates are revised by oil marketing companies, but there have been no significant changes reported in recent days.
In the national capital New Delhi, petrol is priced at around ₹94.77 per litre, while diesel stands at ₹87.67 per litre. Similarly, in Mumbai, petrol continues to retail at approximately ₹103.50 per litre, with diesel at about ₹90.03 per litre, making it one of the costlier metros due to higher state taxes.
Fuel prices remain higher in southern cities such as Hyderabad, where petrol is around ₹107.46 per litre and diesel is about ₹95.70 per litre. In western India, Ahmedabad records petrol prices at roughly ₹94.48 per litre, while diesel is close to ₹90.16–₹90.87 per litre, depending on minor daily revisions.

The variation in fuel prices across cities is primarily due to differences in state-level VAT, local taxes, and transportation costs. While central excise duties remain uniform, state taxes significantly influence the final retail price consumers pay at the pump.
Despite rising global crude oil prices triggered by tensions in the Middle East, domestic fuel rates in India have remained relatively steady so far. Analysts note that state-run oil companies often absorb short-term fluctuations, though sustained increases in crude prices could eventually reflect in retail fuel rates.
Fuel prices in India are revised daily at 6 a.m., and consumers are advised to check real-time rates through official apps or fuel station updates. With global energy markets remaining uncertain, price stability in the coming days will depend on both international trends and domestic policy decisions.
