Actor Vijay Deverakonda has landed in controversy after a Hyderabad-based lawyer filed a police complaint accusing him of making derogatory remarks against tribal communities during a recent public event.
According to Telangana Today, advocate Lal Chauhan submitted a complaint at SR Nagar police station on Thursday, objecting to comments made by Deverakonda at the pre-release event of the Suriya-starrer ‘Retro’. The actor, while condemning the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam, reportedly likened the attackers’ actions to tribal clashes from 500 years ago, which has sparked outrage among tribal associations.
In his speech, Deverakonda said, “The solution to what is happening in Kashmir is to educate them [terrorists] and ensure they don’t get brainwashed. What will they achieve? Kashmir belongs to India, and Kashmiris are ours.” He went on to say, “India doesn’t even need to attack Pakistan because Pakistanis themselves are fed up with their government… [These terrorists] behave like tribals did 500 years ago, fighting without common sense.”

Tribal groups have condemned the remarks, alleging they demean indigenous communities and perpetuate harmful stereotypes. Several have called for an immediate public apology from the actor.
The SR Nagar police confirmed receipt of the complaint and stated that appropriate action will be taken based on legal consultation.
The April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam, which claimed 28 lives and injured dozens, has drawn widespread condemnation across the country. Deverakonda, who recalled visiting the region during a previous film shoot, joined others in denouncing the violence, but now faces backlash over the language he used in his remarks.
As public reaction mounts, the actor is yet to respond to the controversy.
