The highly anticipated Telugu action epic Akhanda 2: Thaandavam, starring Nandamuri Balakrishna, has secured a new global theatrical release date of December 12, 2025, following a last-minute postponement that halted its original December 5 schedule. The announcement, made late Tuesday by producers 14 Reels Plus on X, has reignited excitement among fans eagerly awaiting the sequel to the 2021 blockbuster.
The abrupt delay, announced mere hours before the planned premiere shows on December 4, stemmed from a Madras High Court injunction linked to a financial dispute between 14 Reels Plus and Eros International Media Limited over unpaid dues of approximately ₹28 crore. The resolution, reportedly facilitated by Balakrishna adjusting ₹20 crore of his remuneration, cleared the legal hurdles, ensuring the film’s path to cinemas.
The production house expressed gratitude to Balakrishna and director Boyapati Sreenu for their unwavering support, stating on X, “We are forever grateful to our dearest ‘God of Masses’ #NandamuriBalakrishna Garu and #BoyapatiSreenu Garu for standing by us during this challenging moment.” The new release includes grand premieres on December 11, with bookings set to open soon across multiple formats, including 3D, IMAX, and Dolby Cinema.

The two-minute-41-second trailer promises a high-octane narrative, showcasing Balakrishna reprising his dual roles as Akhanda Rudra Sikandar Aghora and Murali Krishna, confronting malevolent forces threatening India’s spiritual heritage. The film, backed by a ₹200 crore budget, features Samyuktha Menon, Aadhi Pinisetty, and Harshaali Malhotra, with Thaman S’s electrifying score amplifying its devotional and action-packed spectacle.
Directed by Boyapati Sreenu, Akhanda 2 builds on the colossal success of its predecessor, which grossed ₹117 crore globally. With pre-release business reportedly crossing ₹114 crore and fan fervor at its peak—evidenced by a German fan purchasing a ticket for ₹1 lakh—the film is poised for a monumental box office impact, potentially during the Christmas holiday season.
